Pershore to Stoulton

E(1)              From Pershore take the A44 towards Evesham. Just on the outskirts of Pershore find the Pershore Bridge Car Park and Picnic Site on the L. (Just after the bridge over the River Avon).

E(2)              Leave the car park and cross the river on the old bridge used by Cromwell. Cross A44 and go L to find a kissing gate in the railings just before the new bridge, take steps down to go with River Avon on your L.

E(3)              Follow the bank of the Avon for 1 mile, to cross foot bridge. Right turn and go diagonally across field to take stile to main road (Note This right turn is identified by the Plastic tunnels of the small garden centre to your right and a single spire church nestling in trees -If you go too far you end up at a boatyard, just walk back along the A 4104).

E(4)              On main road turn right and at garden centre cross road and go up slope (by a house called The Farthings”) marked as a Bridle path.

E(5)              At the top of lane go through gate at right of Woodman’s Cottage. Go to top right hand corner of field to find stile. Cross stile and go ahead with ditch L to come to stile into woods.

E(6)              Enter the ancient Tyddesley wood through the stile/gate and go ahead down bridle path through wood.

E(7)              Cross logging road, and continue pass Military Firing Range warning flag post, ignore side paths and maintain line down to bridge over Bow Brook.

E(8)              Go through gate and up field with fence R to find gate at the top of the field. (There is a FP sign in the hedge) This is Salter’s Lane.

E(9)              Cross Salter’s Lane and take gate opposite. Turn 1/2 right and go across field to top right hand corner and take stream bridge.

E(10)         After 40 paces turn L through gap into field. Go ½ R over centre of field, aiming for middle large tree, find foot bridge to right of tree. Cross footbridge. Cross next field to an old oak in the top right hand corner.

E(11)         Cross the ditch by the oak, no bridge, go 1/2 L to find field corner gap to road. You are now at Crab Common T-junction.

E(12)         Turn left and follow the road direction Croome / Kempsey for approximately 600 paces.

E(13)         Take roadside hedge gap R. Observe lone tree in centre of field. Head directly for tree - pass tree and at field edge go R 30 paces to find hedge stile and footbridge L.

E(14)         Cross stile and footbridge and go ½ L to find way mark post at wood edge. Turn L keeping the wood to your R. After 150 paces come to the Besford – Wadborough road.

E(15)         Go R 20 paces and the L on grassy bridleway into Croome Perry Wood. Turn right, as the bridleway does, and carry on with main body of the wood on your L until you meet the road at the outskirts of Wadborough. Go R and enter Wadborough ( telephone box at first road on right) Pass the Mason’s Arms if you dare ! Fine food (you need to book, even mid week lunch, and excellent beer TEL: 01905 840524.

E(16)         Go 100 paces past  pub cross stile R and take footpath sign ahead to cross the fields/stiles with hedge R to find road. Turn L and pass Wadborough Hall Farm.

E(17)         After a further 400 paces come to “Teal Turf”. Enter the drive and on the left, (across the fence about 20 paces down the drive) you see FP sign, cross the fence as best you can and then go through the works yard, the path is actually along the hedge but the working site means some slight diversions are required.

E(18)         Follow the hedge out of the yard up to the top of the large field and follow round the top of field for about 20 paces to find gap with ditch (no bridge).

E(19)         Go through gap into another field (Currently has 2 old caravans in it) Pass the caravans and walk across with the hedge on your right CAUTION; This field is used by the owners of a Dog clipping service and their ALSATIAN AND DOBERMAN MAY BE AROUND. They are not vicious but the owner will put them away if requested (OK for those heading South but Northbound take a stout stick in case you are nervous about dogs.

E(20)         Pass the dog owners bungalow, you get a wonderful close up of their lounge, and one other new bungalow, then you are in HAWBRIDGE.

E(21)         Follow the road to the corner of the Playground (Telephone box) and turn R, after 20 paces arrive at a T junction. The “Bird in Hand”, modern pub is on your right, but the route turns left and goes up hill until you meet the A44. Turn left and then first right into Church Lane to St. Edmund Church Stoulton.

 

Stoulton to Pershore

W(215)   Face St Edmund Church at Stoulton. Go R down road to the A44. Turn L and then first R to HAWBRIDGE.  Just before the Bird in Hand turn R and then first L alongside the Playground. Follow road ahead at footpath signs go ahead to pass by of two bungalows CAUTION DOGS.

W(216)   Cross the stile by the second bungalow. Go ahead with the hedge L pass the caravans. At far L corner go through the hedge, over ditch (no bridge) and ahead across field toward low buildings. Go through the works yard, the path is actually along the hedge but the working site means you have to make your own way as best as possible. Go R on drive way to main road.

W(217)   Go L on road and pass Wadborough Hall Farm. After approx. 150 paces take footpath R and go with hedge L through fields to road.

W(218)  On road go L and enter Wadborough (telephone box at first road on left) Pass the Mason’s Arms if you dare! Fine food (you need to book, even mid week lunch, and excellent beer) TEL: 01905 840524.

W(219)   Carry straight on until the road makes a sharp right turn. Here take the bridle path to the left with Crome Perry wood on your right. Follow the bridleway at sharp left turn do not go ahead on stile but continue in wood road.

W(220)   Cross road, go 15 paces R and take field entrance L. Go ahead with wood on L, after some 200 paces find way mark L. At way mark go R across field to find stile and footbridge. Go ½ R to cross field passing close to lone tree aiming for hedge gap to find road.

W(221)   Go L on road. Pass Crabbe Lane on L and after 15 paces find field entrance R, go into field and go round two sides to come to far L corner gap with ditch by oak tree.

W(222)   Cross the ditch by the oak, no bridge, and then head across next field to find footbridge approximately 100 yards to the right of top left corner.

W(223)   Cross foot bridge go ahead across next field to gap by large tree to left of line of bushy trees.

W(224)   Through gap, go right to find bridge. Over bridge and go L with hedge L, follow field edge (ignoring another stile/bridge on your left) to reach gate onto the road. This is Salter’s lane.

W(225)   Cross road and go through opposite gate. Follow the Bridle path with hedge L (although it does not look like one) down to the footbridge over Bow Brook.

W(226)   Enter Tyddesley wood and go up bridal path, through wood, across a logging road to gate and stile. Cross first field with ditch R and then cross stile and head for gate at the left hand side of a black and white house, Woodmans Cottage.

W(227)   Go down the lane to the main Pershore - Upton road. Cross road and turn right. At the end of the Garden Centre take the footpath L and make way down to river Avon.

W(228)   Turn L at river and follow bank upstream to Pershore Bridge. Take steps, turn L on main road and after some 50 paces go R to re cross Avon on old bridge to find car park and Picnic site.
